Normally,  the buildings that are built in our areas have a  regular foundation called ‘shallow foundation’, i.e.,  below the ground level in three sizes  – length, width and depth.  Foundations are not the same for all kinds of structures.  The size and structure of the foundation vary depending on the nature of the soil spread over the particular site,  the groundwater level of the plot, the type of building, the overall load of the structure, etc..

Initial testing

Soil should be taken from many places in the site where the structure is to be constructed and tested.  The reason is that there is a possibility of one type of soil at the top of the plot and a different type of soil at the bottom.   In that case, soil testing becomes the first stage of testing for the foundation.    The advice of engineers is necessary in that matter.  The nature of each soil is different and it can withstand the building in a different way.  Therefore, the safety of the building depends on the bearing capacity of the soil.

Natural Calamities

It is essential that the shape and structure of the foundation be able to withstand the natural effects of rain, floods, storms and earthquakes.   For this, the nature of the soil should be properly studied.   What kind of soil is there at the site of construction?  Will it support the foundation?  You have to make sure that.  Security is the construction of strong supporting pillars and foundations accordingly.

Water Bodies

Attention Generally,  buildings that are close to water bodies are affected by water.    In coastal cities like Chennai, the soil is clay in nature.   Therefore,  the tolerability of the soil should be assessed when the structure is located close to the water bodies.   It is necessary to have a deep foundation in those areas.  At a time when apartments are on the rise, homebuilders must pay extra attention to soil testing.   There should be clarity on the bearing capacity of the soil as there will be more houses in apartments than in separate houses.

 Types of Lands

Since the site of construction has been cultivated in some way or the other in the past, is there enough soil to build a  building there?   It needs to be examined in advance.     Since the soil in such lands is capable of absorbing moisture,  there may be water logging during the rainy or flood season.  Therefore,  strong foundational systems are more important than bearing capacity in such soils.  If the house has already been built,  it is important to strengthen the foundation.Protects The Building
