Beginners Guide to Setting Up a Ground Water Tank

While building a house, we need two tanks to store water.  One is an underground water tank.  This means that we have an underground water tank that stores metro water or panchayat water i.e. sump and an overhead water tank i.e. overhead tank.  The first to be built to store drinking water in these two is the sump, the underground water tank.  There is a lot of information in this article such as how to set it up and when to set it up.

It is important to choose a place for the construction of the sump and dig a pit before digging through the end of the house.  This will help in excavating the place.    When choosing a  suitable place to set up a basement underground tank, it should be in front of the house,  close to the road.  Because there are water paths running on the road.  In this way a short connection from the water connections to the sump is sufficient and it is necessary to get the right gradient in the connection pipe.   The construction of a basement tank near the road will result in greater, less connectivity length and more pressure from the water pipe passing on the road.  It is also beneficial to be near the road when hiring a water tanker to fill the basement tank.  Generally, when setting up a  basement tank, it is customary to place it under the portico where the car stops.  This is because the car parking lot will be in front of the house near the road.

Determining the size of the basement tank

When planning the basement tank, you need to plan according to the number of people who can live there.   If there is only one house, a tank with a capacity of 6000 litres to 8000 litres is sufficient.    If you have the intention of renting out, you will have to build a  large tank with an additional 4000 to 5000 litres for each additional house.    When a  basement tank is set up at this level, it is useful even when there is a scarcity of water.  The depth of this basement tank is usually placed as five feet.  A man should stand with his head out so as not to feel suffocation while standing inside the sump.   It is better to build a tank that is so deep.   We have seen at that level but you have to consider that there will be 28 litres of water in one cubic foot space.  We decided that there should be a  capacity of 6000 litres.  If you divide it by 28, you will get 215 cubic feet, which is generally the size of the tank that everyone wants.

Then divide this number by a depth of 5 feet to get 43 square feet.   We can determine the length and width of the sump according to where it is now.  It can be a  rectangular shape of 4’×11′ or 5’× 8.5′ dimensions.  Or it can also be square with dimensions such as 6.5′ ×6.5′.   It would be better to build the underground tank with concrete.  This is because the groundwater or sewage water from the soil can leak and the good drinking water we store can be contaminated.  So it is advisable to build this tank with concrete as we have to give importance to water leakage.   Sambus can also be constructed with bricks etc.  But it should be noted that it can lead to dehydration.  When building a  basement tank with bricks,  make sure to use the plastering mesh while working on the coating.

This is because it will help avoid cracks.  Ready-made plastic bins and plastic tanks such as  Sintex are available in various sizes.      There are also those who use this plastic tank without putting concrete or brick construction in the pit we dug for the basement tank.  But we also need to see to what extent it is beneficial to store water for a long time in a  plastic tank.    We also need to see if that plastic tank can withstand the pressure of a car while setting up the basement tank below the parking lot.

When constructing a basement tank, if the edges are tied with circular corners instead of tying the edges to a 90-degree edge, the pressure of the water is distributed over a large area and the pressure of the water is distributed.  Will be less.  It will also be easier to clean the corners of the tank.  It is special to lay the foundation for the house after the construction of the basement tank.
